Dear Friends,
The situation of El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua is catastrophic due to 12 days of reigning without any stop. The information that I have received from my country and from Guatemala is discouraging. About 100 people have died in the four countries including seven in Costa Rica; many homes, bridges, and roads, have been destroyed, and to add to that, approximately 40% of the new crops are lost. I was at the beginning of hurricane Mitch in El Salvador (1998), came back to the US to request support from donors, and went back to the country after a week. For me, the destruction was apocalyptic. Following the information that I am receiving the present catastrophe is worth. Once again, there is the need to rebuild countries that are already very poor.
If you want to support my people in El Salvador, you are more than welcome. There is the need of food, medicines, blankets... and what is harder rebuilding homes and buying seeds for the next period of cultivating the land. I was talking to my brother Antonio who worked with La Coordinadora for more than 10 years and he said to me that people will be hungry. With the humidity after the rain they can plant again.
